INTRODUCTION
Antique cars are the second subgroup of classic cars. Generally speaking Antique cars are 45 years or older cars. In order to be exact cars from 1940s to 1970s can be deemed true Antique cars.
Cars during the 1940s to 1970s would see the most drastic changes in appearance, performance as well as perception and purpose. These changes would come as combination of World war 2, post war economic boom, global market competition, and 70s the gas crisis.
The 1940s promising car market was stopped short after the start of World war 2 in the literal sense of car production company stopping domestic car production to focus sorely in support needed material for World War 2.
The 1950s would see the biggest growth of car market based on economical boom and the possibilities to reach the American dream through the hard work and labor. Car company would go to extreme design length to capture consumer’s interests leading to the start of car tail fin war and the chrome splatter battles.
By the 1960s cars would be bigger and bolder in design but smaller size cars from the foreign market would gain traction in the market. The loosing gas crisis of the 70s along with environment regulations would also play a part in the consumer relations with the car and the actual car design it self.
The 1970s saw the most drastic measures in car design and the car consumption market due full blown gas crisis. Major regulations were places to decrease gas cost and environmental effects.
